Propaganda
Bandwagon- The Bandwagon uses social evidence to legitimize itself and become attractive. It plays heavily on the need for belonging, making the group a desirable place to be. It may also use the scarcity principle, showing that it is better to join sooner or later
Scapegoating is a propaganda technique that has been used throughout history as a means for people to move blame and responsibility away from themselves by attributing it to others (or to an object or event). A scapegoat is the person or group made to bear the blame for or punished for those errors committed by others.
The "lesser of two evils" technique tries to convince us of an idea or proposal by presenting it as the least offensive option. This technique is often implemented during wartime to convince people of the need for sacrifices or to justify difficult decisions. This technique is often accompanied by adding blame on an enemy country or political group. One idea or proposal is often depicted as one of the only options or paths. When confronted with this technique, the subject should consider the value of any proposal independently of those it is being compared with.
"Down with the kids" is a propaganda technique that tries to convince you of the idea or proposal is coming from a person "just like you." The person may use a certain slang or accent to relate to the audience. They also might make errors on purpose to make it sound more sincere. ACE (alliance for climate education) is promoting their "FREE high school climate assemblies." They are using superhero costumes and rap music to make education look fun.
Assertion is commonly used in advertising and modern propaganda. An assertion is an enthusiastic or energetic statement presented as a fact, although it is not necessarily true. They often imply that the statement requires no explanation or back up, but that it should merely be accepted without question. Examples of assertion, although somewhat scarce in wartime propaganda, can be found often in modern advertising propaganda. Any time an advertiser states that their product is the best without providing evidence for this, they are using an assertion. The subject, ideally, should simply agree to the statement without searching for additional information or reasoning. Assertions, although usually simple to spot, are often dangerous forms of propaganda because they often include falsehoods or lies.
Transfer- Transfer is a technique used in propaganda and advertising. Also known as association this is a technique of projecting positive or negative qualities praise or blame of a person, entity, object, or value an individual, group, organization, nation patriotism etc. to another in order to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it.
